The Desi Spotlight is a youth-led community initiative that highlights the people, stories, events, and traditions in our Roanoke South Asian community, while welcoming the broader public to learn and experience.
Our mission is to create a platform where local South Asian voices can be seen, heard, and celebrated, while providing opportunities for the broader community to learn about and experience.
Through stories, interviews, and community events, we strive to connect people, celebrate culture, and bring our community's stories into the spotlight.
Meet the Founder
Hi, my name is Sohini Singh. I founded The Desi Spotlight because I wanted to create a platform dedicated to highlighting the South Asian community in the Roanoke area. As someone who grew up in the South Asian community in Roanoke, I know how meaningful it can be to see people, traditions, and stories that feel familiar represented in the community around us.
Through stories, interviews, and community events, The Desi Spotlight aims to celebrate the people and traditions that make our community unique while creatinng opportunities for everyone to learn, connect, and participate.
